An insight into everyday life

About Danica Foods

Environmental activities

The factory in Lycksele takes part in their social responsibility, as they strive to make their energy consumption as efficient as possible. To this end, the factory also collaborated with Umeå University, where a group of students had the opportunity to put their theoretical knowledge into practice.

For example, in 2020, the plant started working with a project group to investigate possible efficiency improvements in the plant's energy consumption. The project group discovered that the factory was not using all the cold in the cooling water that cools the products before it is put on glass. It turned out that the flow rate of the cooling water was too high and this was wasting energy. By fitting a throttle to control the flow of cooling water, they learned that it was possible to halve the flow without significantly affecting cooling time. As water is a large part of production and also a natural resource, it is important for the factory to take responsibility and use water as efficiently as possible and reduce wastage of water and energy. This collaboration between the university and the factory was a win-win situation, as the students gained practical experience and the factory gained valuable insights into possible energy efficiency improvements.
